20/23 Intersection- How can we beautify?

Lexy June 22, 2026 at 10:43 PM
There’s been some talk about trying to figure out what we can do with the intersection of 20/23. Any ideas? There’s not a ton of space to work with. Not the greatest pics (I’ll attach the other corners too), but there was a lot of traffic while there and a truck actually went up the curb and into the grass right after I took this picture. So that’s something to keep in mind here too.

Had to crop down, but hopefully this is still enough to get ideas brewing. Definitely need to pull grass and weeds out

No grass and all concrete by Subway

Fire hydrant is on this corner so not sure what could be done with that. Grass is definitely patchy at the intersection and completely missing on the first pic where all the trucks drive over.

I’m sharing some photo ideas that we could possibly get inspiration from. One is a screen shot from Pinterest and the other is from the Woodstock square. I’ve noticed small metal fencing/railings and old fashion lamp posts (possibly a large clock) would dress up a downtown (if we could find funding!). I also think the grass areas would look much better with a little landscaping perennials and some mulch. Just ideas!

Lexi and Alli, Thoughts: Where the trucks run up on the grass/curbs perhaps some largeish round rocks idk rock sizes though could go there or flagstone. That might be easier to replace/ update than mulch. Along the sidewalks idk who takes care of that now....but maybe there remove some grass and replace w/mulch or low growing annual filler flowers. Ithink I would keep a small strip of grass along the sidewalk which would need to be maintained. Maybe maintenence could be done w/a string trimmer if someone has one that could be used.

Love the pic inspo!! That definitely would make it look so much better. Large clock would be cool too! I’m not sure who is in charge of that either- City, business owners, or landlord?? I have a trimmer and could do that.

I like that idea, Anne! I also think the building/s in the picture below would be a great spot for a mural in the future! It would be a great spot that would get a lot of visibility and with added annual flowers and mulch with rocks, might dress up the area nicely! I couldn’t figure out how to get a street view of the building/s I’m talking about, so I just circled the buildings from an arial view. I think it’s one building and it may be vacant right now.

Fantastic, how do we move forward?

Lots of rules with IDOT due to state roads. City is waiting on response from IDOT regarding some of the hanging basket locations. Couple thoughts come to my mind-(tho I might not be correct ) 1- this might have to be a 2027 initiative, coordination with city up front so resources and roles are qualified 2- any new initiative needs to have 2 leaders

Thanks Ellie. Perhaps we revisit in the future.
